10.75" Dinner Plates

About Our Polish Pottery Dinner Plates

Each 10.75" dinner plate is made from white stoneware clay, fired at roughly 1,250°C (2,280°F), and decorated by hand using the traditional Boleslawiec sponge-stamping and brush technique. No two plates are exactly alike, which is part of the appeal: you can see the artisan's hand in every dot and petal. The high firing temperature makes the glaze exceptionally hard, chip-resistant, and non-porous, so colors stay bright through years of daily use.

Size and specifications

Diameter: 10.75 inches (approximately 27 cm). Height: about 1 inch at the rim [confirm]. Weight: approximately 1.9 lb / 0.85 kg [confirm]. Rim style: a gently raised edge with a wide flat well. Stock number 1014 is the manufacturer's shape code; the suffix (166a, 217a, DU60, and so on) is the pattern.

Choosing a pattern

Our dinner plates come in three families, and the same pattern is usually available across the full dinnerware range so you can match every piece on the table.

Traditional patterns (such as Peacock 56, Nature 41, Polka Dot 42, and Daisy Dreams 120) are the classic cobalt-on-cream designs that have been produced in Boleslawiec for generations. They are the most affordable and the easiest to add to later.

Signature "a" patterns (Floral Peacock 166a, Blue Diamond Dream 217a, Winter Night 243a, and others) add more colors and more detailed brushwork on top of the stamped base.

Unikat and DU designs (marked "ar" or "DU" in the stock number, like Poppies Unikat 150ar or Mosaic Flower DU60) are the artist series: more complex, more hand-painting, and signed by the decorator. Production runs are smaller, so if you are building a set in a Unikat pattern, it is worth buying the pieces you need together.

Building a place setting

A standard four-piece setting is the 10.75" dinner plate, the 7.5" salad plate, a soup or pasta bowl, and a mug. Many customers start with four dinner plates in one pattern and add matching pieces over time. Because every item is sold individually, you can also mix patterns from the same family for a coordinated but not identical table.

Care and use

All of our stoneware is dishwasher safe, oven safe to 480°F / 250°C [confirm], microwave safe, and freezer safe. Avoid sudden temperature changes (for example, moving a plate directly from the refrigerator into a hot oven) and do not use it on a stovetop or under a broiler. The glaze is lead- and cadmium-free and meets US food-safety standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these plates dishwasher and microwave safe?

Yes. Boleslawiec stoneware is fired at a high temperature and glazed all over, so it goes in the dishwasher, microwave, oven, and freezer without any special treatment.

How big is a Polish pottery dinner plate?

Our standard dinner plate (shape 1014) is 10.75 inches across, which is slightly larger than a typical 10.5" American dinner plate. It fits standard dishwasher racks and most plate cabinets.

Are the plates sold individually or in sets?

Individually. Buy exactly the number you need, and add more later; because the patterns stay in production, you can usually match a set years after the first purchase.

Is this authentic Boleslawiec pottery?

Yes. Everything we sell is made in Boleslawiec, Poland, by Zaklady Ceramiczne "Boleslawiec" and carries the factory backstamp on the base.

What is the difference between traditional, "a", and Unikat patterns?

Traditional patterns are the classic stamped designs; "a" patterns add extra colors and detail; Unikat (and DU) designs are the artist series with the most hand-painting, signed by the decorator. All three are made the same way and are equally durable; the difference is decoration time.

Will the colors fade?

No. The decoration sits under a clear glaze that is fired into the surface, so it cannot scratch off, fade in the dishwasher, or react with food.
