Bowls 6 Inch Diameter

About Our 6" Polish Pottery Bowls

This bowl is the size Boleslawiec households reach for first thing in the morning and again at lunch. It sits between the 5 3/8" breakfast bowl and the 6.5" soup bowl, and for many customers it replaces both. The body is dense stoneware fired at about 1,250°C (2,280°F), so it holds heat for soup and stays cool to the touch with ice cream, and the hand-stamped pattern is sealed under a clear glaze that will not fade, craze, or absorb odors through years of dishwasher use.

Size and specifications

Diameter: 6 inches (15 cm) across the rim. Height: about 2.75 inches [confirm]. Capacity: about 20 oz / 600 ml filled to the rim, 12 to 14 oz as a normal serving [confirm]. What the 6" bowl is for

Cereal, oatmeal, and yogurt in the morning; soup, chili, rice bowls, and noodle bowls at lunch; a side salad, mashed potatoes, or dessert at dinner. It is also the right size for a single serving of pasta, a baked custard or crumble straight from the oven, and popcorn or chips on the couch. If you want one bowl size that does everything, this is the one to buy four of.

Which bowl size should I choose?

The 5 3/8" bowl is the traditional cereal bowl and a little lighter. The 6" bowl holds about a quarter more and works for soup. The 6.5" bowl is the largest individual bowl, for ramen, pho, and big salads. The 9.5" soup plate is a shallow, rimmed alternative that sits on the dinner plate. All of them come in the same patterns.

Choosing a pattern

The 6" bowls come in the same three families as the rest of the range. Traditional patterns such as Nature 41, Polka Dot 42, Peacock 56, Daisy Dreams 120, and Holly Berries 242 are the classic cobalt-on-cream designs and the most economical. Signature "a" patterns such as Floral Peacock 166a, Blue Diamond Dream 217a, Cobalt Swirl 174a, and Cherry Blossom Bliss 1363a add extra colors and detail. Unikat and DU designs such as Floral Butterfly Unikat 149ar, Garden Meadow Unikat 296ar, Regal Bouquet Unikat 148ar, and Spring Swallow Serenade DU182 are the artist series, signed by the decorator on the base. The pattern number is shared across every shape, so a bowl in 166a matches a dinner plate, mug, and teapot in 166a.

Care and use

Dishwasher safe, microwave safe, oven safe to 480°F / 250°C [confirm], and freezer safe. Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as moving a bowl from the freezer straight into a hot oven, and keep it off the stovetop and out from under the broiler. The glaze is lead- and cadmium-free and meets US food-safety standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a 6" Polish pottery bowl hold?

About 20 oz filled to the rim, or a comfortable 12 to 14 oz serving of cereal, soup, or salad.

Is the 6" bowl a cereal bowl or a soup bowl?

Both. It is a generous cereal bowl and a good single-serving soup bowl. The 5 3/8" is the smaller, traditional cereal size and the 6.5" is the larger soup size.

Can I put it in the oven and microwave?

Yes. Boleslawiec stoneware is oven, microwave, dishwasher, and freezer safe. Avoid sudden temperature changes and do not use it on a stovetop or under a broiler.

Does it match the plates and mugs?

Yes. The same pattern number is used across every shape, so a 6" bowl in 217a matches dinner plates, salad plates, and mugs in 217a.

Are the bowls sold individually or in sets?

Individually. Buy exactly the number you need and add more later; the patterns stay in production.
