Soup & Pasta Bowls

About Our 10" Polish Pottery Pasta Bowls

This is the largest of the everyday bowls in the Boleslawiec range and the one most often bought as a serving piece. Its wide, gently flared sides make it easy to toss pasta or salad without spilling, and the flat base sits securely on the table. Because the stoneware is fired at about 1,250°C (2,280°F) it holds heat well: pasta stays warm through second helpings, and a bowl of soup brought to the table stays hot longer than it would in porcelain or glass.

Size and specifications

Diameter: 10 inches (25.5 cm) across the rim. Height: about 3.5 inches [confirm]. Capacity: 64 oz / 8 cups / 1.9 liters filled to the rim; about 6 cups as a practical serving level. Weight: approximately 3 lb / 1.4 kg empty [confirm]. It fits a standard oven rack and most dishwasher lower racks [confirm].

Serving bowl or individual bowl?

For most households this is a serving bowl: pasta for four, salad for six, a large batch of chili, or a fruit bowl on the counter. It also works as a single oversized pasta or ramen bowl for anyone who likes a generous portion. If you want one bowl per person that matches the dinnerware and sits on the dinner plate, the 9.5" rimmed soup plate is the individual size. Many customers buy one 10" bowl to serve from and a set of 9.5" soup plates to eat from, in the same pattern.

Choosing a pattern

The bowls come in the same three families as the rest of the range. Traditional patterns such as Peacock 56, Nature 41, Polka Dot 42, Daisy Dreams 120, and Holly Berries 242 are the classic cobalt-on-cream designs and the most economical. Signature "a" patterns such as Floral Peacock 166a, Mosaic Flower Light 221a, and Blue Blossom 1154a add extra colors and detail. Unikat and DU designs such as Floral Butterfly Unikat 149ar, Poppies Unikat 150ar, Regal Bouquet Unikat 148ar, Floral Garden Unikat 312ar, Mosaic Flower DU60, and Sweet Violet DU121 are the artist series, signed by the decorator on the base. On a piece this size the artist patterns have room to show their full design, which is why the Unikat bowls are among our most photographed pieces. The pattern number is shared across every shape, so a bowl in 166a matches dinner plates, soup plates, and mugs in 166a.

Pairs well with

A large platter for the main course, a serving bowl for sides, and a ladle if you're serving soup. For a matched table, add 10.75" dinner plates and 9.5" soup plates in the same pattern.

Care and use

Dishwasher safe, oven safe to 480°F / 250°C [confirm], microwave safe, and freezer safe. Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as moving a cold bowl straight into a hot oven, and keep it off the stovetop and out from under the broiler. The glaze is lead- and cadmium-free and meets US food-safety standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big is the 10" pasta bowl?

10 inches across and 64 oz (8 cups) to the rim, which serves pasta for about four people or salad for six. About 6 cups is a comfortable serving level.

Can I bake in it?

Yes. Boleslawiec stoneware is oven safe, so you can bake a pasta dish or a crumble in the bowl and bring it straight to the table. Avoid sudden temperature changes and do not use it on a stovetop or under a broiler.

Is it dishwasher and microwave safe?

Yes. The high firing temperature and all-over glaze make it safe in the dishwasher, microwave, oven, and freezer.

What is the difference between this and the 9.5" soup and pasta bowl?

This 10" bowl is deep and holds 64 oz; it is a serving bowl or a single oversized portion. The 9.5" soup and pasta bowl is a shallow rimmed plate for one serving that sits on the dinner plate. Both come in the same patterns.

Does it match the rest of the dinnerware?

Yes. The same pattern number is used across every shape, so a bowl in 217a matches dinner plates, soup plates, and mugs in 217a.
